I live in US and I wanted to close one of my accounts in citibank that I opened 5 years ago. It so happened that I visited India before few months and could personally visit citibank office there. But there was only one lady who was assisting possibly 50 other customers. I was told to get in touch with customer service for the same.
I came back to US & contacted citibank customer service and sent the account closure request form. They came back saying that my signature is changed and hence could not close the account. They also come up with an option that to update my new signature in their records, I need to forward the
Well, I sent them the notarized copy of my signature/application form & photocopy of my citi card by courier. And to my surprise, again they came back saying that my signature doesnt match, the same email that I received earlier.The process of sending back and forth emails is going on since last 4 months but still they dont have any solution to that.
This is the latest email from their customer service:-
This refers to your email dated April 07, 2005, regarding closure of account.
We confirm that we are in receipt of your instruction forwarded by you. However, we are unable to close your account as your signature does not tally with the one maintained in our records.
We request you to kindly forward fresh instruction appropriately signed to the below mentioned address for us to do the needful.

They have been sending me the same email over and over, no matter what I write to them. Looks like they are just copy/pastingthe old email again and again since last 4 months.
This raises a question: Do the customer service persons really have any powers to do something fruitful?
Or it is just a show and the system is there just for the hype?
And the real question is :
I am asking to close my account and send the balance to XYZ address with a check payable to me, the person who is holding the account. I am not asking them to send the balance check payable to some other person. This is a legitimate request and I had sent them all the documents, notarized copy of my changed signature, photo copy of my citibank card etc.
They are just sitting there and doing nothing. Its so frustrating. I feel like I have made the biggest mistake of my life by opening an account with citibank.
This is an ERA account opened by Wipro for me. I am also going to update Wipro admin HR and all my colleagues about this.
