Citibank is too large to care

Good point:

One of the largest bank in the world, hence with many locations that add to the convenience.

Bad point:

Well, it is so large that their customer service is horrible. In summary, they hold the attitude that one customer does not really matter to them because they are so big.

If you are thinking of banking with Citibank, don’t do it!

We have been banking with Citi for a while (5+ years), with business and personal accounts, credit cards, mortgage. I have to say I don’t know why we are still banking with them. Maybe it is the inertia of staying with the same bank.

Here are some of our bad experiences:

  • Opening a business checking account took a month with about an inch of paperwork. We have very good credit, so that’s not the issue. It was simply the stodginess of Citibank. We opened one with Wells Fargo instead and it took 1/2 hours.

  • We had been banking with Citi, again for 5+ years, but they always withhold our fund for up to 7 business days regardless (I am sure it is for their float as US drawn checks clear in 3 business days). With Wells Fargo, similar # of years as their customers, Wells does not withhold any amount, not even when we were depositing a personal check close to $100K. Again, our credit rating is impeccable (FICO almost 800).

  • Just recently, we called about some certificate on the business account, and the customer service was very rude. We said how could they treat us like that when we had so much dealing with them, and the customer rep said ’’You are welcomed to stop your dealing with us’’. I think this sums up their general attitude towards their customers.
