I had a inward transfer for some amount initiated from US and before doing this I had confirmed from Customer support that there will be NO inward remittance fee.
When amount actually got credited to my account, the amount was US$5 short. I called the agency that initiated transfer and they provided all statements showing actual amount being sent by them to Citi.
I again called the Citi bank customer support and went through multiple rounds of narrating what is the issue and every person seems to have made up mind that they have to tell Lie that is told by Citi bank. "SIR we don’t charge any inward remittance charges, please enquire with remitting bank"
Even after providing statement sent by the remitting agency, they deny fact that they have taken any charge but one of the communication they agreed that CITIBANK, US which was intermediatory has deducted these as charges.
My question is when I provided the remitting agency only with address of my Bank, account number and SWIFT ID of bank as provided by them, how come they chose to go through a intermediatory Bank(which is parent of Citibank, India) and then why make Gimmick of telling no Inward remittance fee is charged?
I was also given very bad rate of conversion from US$ to RS
I have paid remitting agency US$ 35 as charges and don’t mind paying 5$ more to my bank for providing service but what ails me is that they have to Lie, confuse and dupe customers in every possible way?
having said this next time I have to again US this same bank to get money transferred as there are no better alternatives available.
