When did you last see a movie that is technical marvel. Be it the photography or the scrrenplay or the direction.
These days the standrds of movies are so degraded that most of the times you come out of the cinema hall cursing yourself and the movie makers.
Watch citizen kane and you will appreciate it for the art of film making. It is classic which you might have never heard of(most probably). The movie is in black and white. It was made by a 25 year old young man and he himself is the hero in the film and he played a role of 50+ year old business empire. May be when you watch the movie now it’s hard to appreciate it for what it is. But if your imagination can take you where you want tanscend yourself to the age it was made and watch it then not now. Because this movie was made (As I feel )it was possible for many film makers to make movies.
At a time when there was not much technology as of what we have today a movie that torubled the established film makers of hollywood the movie criticized by the conventional film makers as a mad man’s attempt of movie making this movie as it is called even today ’’The Jewel in the crown of American Cinema’’ stands itself as the number one movie till today in the American film Institute’s top 100 movies list.
Why? What? are the two things that comes to one’s mind when you watch this movie. Why is this movie so great?What is that that is good in this movie?
This movie is not a edge of a seat thriller.If at all there existed a person like Citizen kane then it would have been the best documentary or the biography of that person. It is a simple story narrated by a reporter who investigates the nystery of two words ’’Rose bud’’ which happens to be the last two words spoken by the Citizen kane the emperor of the Kane’s Business Empire. If you are not a serious admirer of movies then cahnces are many that you will not find any thing great in this movie.It is like any other movie. But for those people who appreciates and knows the departments of cinema and who also has keen observation on the intricate details of cinema then this movie will open your eyes. And you will not like yourself for not watching this movie all these days.
The screenplay, for those people who knows what is a screenplay, you can actually see what turns out to be one of the all time great screenplay. For the lighting they have used, for the photography and editing you will almost forget that you are watching a black and white movie.
For aspiring film makers like me this is one good lesson to be read (I mean watch) and re read once in a fort night. Orson wells is brillinat in all the departments he handled. He is at his best when he acted. His direction is next to none. Watch this movie for the experincing the greates pleasure of art.
Unfortunately this movie did not run well when it was first released and was criticized and Wells had terrible experince while reciveing the Oscar fot the best screenplay.
