Funny is what I call it.
This new Close-up kyon nahi karte hain Ad comes in as a breath of fresh air. Literally. Especially when your mom is watching Kasauti Zindagi Kay and enjoying the moments of Anurag and Prernas (two thousand twelve hundredth) reunion. And when you have an ad like this in the commercial break, it only relieves you of the boring Kween Kapoor serials.
Trying to cover what I thought are the main requirements of a good television ad :
The setting of the ad reminds you of the 70s. And the storyline is not too complicated either.
The Storyline
Two versions of this ad were released but then only one of them stayed while the latter was taken off-air.
A good-looking guy is trying to flirtao a girl and gives her a flying kiss. But hey! He doesnt use Close-up and hence, an apparent bad breath! A not-so-good looking guy appears in the picture (He reminds me of Mr.Bean!) and because he has brushed his teeth with Close-up he doesnt have the bad breath problem and so, he gets the girl. Enjoy!!
A daada ji is trying to pass heart-shaped balloons to his darling daadi ji standing in her balcony on the first floor. Enters Mr. Bean and gets the problem solved, enough to impress Daadi ji also!!
The Jingle
What appeals more than the storyline is the jingle and the jingle of this ad is certainly its USP. The funny voice and the way the singer has modulated his voice makes it very attractive. And the lyrics are equally catchy.
The Models
Mr.Bean (I am sorry, I do not know the name of this model) is the star of this Ad and the face has become popular.
The girl, the hunk are just about fine.
The Impact
Most importantly, this is what ads are made for. To create an impact. I saw my 8-year old cousin singing the jingle and brushing his teeth with Close-up. That says it all.
Summing up, a nicely made ad with the content which actually attracts people these days. Brings a lovely smile to your face... the ad and hopefully Close-up, both! Good work!
And waiting for those comments and ratings Id be getting! ;)
