CNN has become a pillar of the American Media in the past 10 years or so. They rose in stature especially after the fantastic live coverage during the original Gulf War. CNN excels in providing breaking news as it happens. They have wide coverage with journalists spread across the globe. These guys are extremely professional and support their reporting with great photos and/or live interviews. THAT SAID .... I dont see the real issues being reported as they should be.
They suffer from the same problem that is plaguing the capitalistic mindset of the USA which is Cater to the masses, report only the news that sells ... its all about the ratings.
The news reported is frequently biased (sometimes to a dangerous extent) towards the existing political leadership. This is not the place to hear an honest critique of government policy or to hear the real facts behind the events. If you want to hear about Americas fantastic war machine and how it crushed the opposition, tune in. But if you want to see the bodies of american soldiers killed in the aftermath of the war, you gotta move on. If you are interested in reading the hype about the Clinton scandal or the Lisa Peterson case, it will be reported in its gory detail .... but if you want to know bout the budget deficit and the cost of the war, these details will be skimmed over .
CNN is a populist network, that caters to the lowest standard .... the dumb masses. It will not take a stand or deliver a real opinion. It will not make you think about the real issues that plague this country (USA).
This is a problem that faces american media in general ... not just CNN. Its just that CNN is very popular which makes it a serious issue.
If you want real news ... tune in to the BBC. Thats the bottom line. :)
The affiliate channels like Cnnfn.com and CNNSI.com (finance and sports respectively) are pretty good in the coverage they provide.
