Whoever is running this section should note that Kochi (earlier Cochin) has had a new airport at another place (Nedumbassery) which is about 20 km north of Kochi. I haven’t seen this new airport, but I am commenting on the old airport which is a small part of the Naval Air Station. It has had no commercial flights since the late 90s.
It was fairly centrally located both from Ernakulam and Fort Cochin. Local transport was readily available. However, it was quite cramped (as the Navy didn’t allow much space to it) which is why a new airport was built. In general the facilities were quite inadequate for a city of this size. It also suffered from being too close to the city, so the planes had restrictions on their load, which meant that they were not allowed to carry a full load of passengers.
May the old airport rest in peace. Whoever has used the new airport is requested to write a review.
