Relaxed! Thats what patrons to this very popular eatery located on Church Street feel as soon as they enter the portals of a soothing, palm fringed ambience. Not to be mixed with the Coconut Grove Bar of the Taj West End, this restaurant rates high on the popularity stakes. Splashes of green with men in white mundus and shirts form the leitmotif of this ‘Kerala speciality restaurant. Fairly large and able to accommodate groups of 8-10, the seating is informal yet private and if youre not an early bird, then you have to wait your turn.
On a hot summer day the best thing to refresh you is a glass of coconut water which has a dash of honey or for the die-hard Southies, moru or butter milk, which has pieces of chopped onions and green chilies and tastes well….Ill be honest and biased…it tastes yummm.
Coconut Grove is a restaurant that caters more to the non-vegetarian palate. Fish, pork, chicken are de rigueur here, and if you dont have appams and chicken stew then I guess youre missing something. Of course the chicken stew is bland and not spicy, but one can always have the fish in tamarind and coconut gravy, or the dry pepper chicken or mutton which are mouth watering and perfect to wash down with a pint of beer. For the vegetarians, am not sure if there is a lot of variety to choose from, however the thali seems to be the best bet.
Not very damaging to the wallet, a meal for 2 without liquor would probably cost Rs.350- Rs.500/-. A restaurant for all seasons, its probably ideal to chill out on a lazy Sunday with friends and family.
