Its very rare we get authentic South Indian food in Delhi. Infact up here in the North - Dosas & Idlis etc are considered the only South Indian dishes.
Coconut Grove serves authentic Kerala & Mangalorean cuisine. Actually, you could call it Konkan cuisine - the dishes indigenous to the Konkan/ Malabar Coast.
The ambience is relaxing - nothing fancy. Pretty lamps over your head resulting in dim lights. The music they play is mostly Hindi instrumental - Brian Silas kind of thing.
The service is the only thing that can be improved here. Most waiters are oblivious of guests calling out for them or they were ignoring me :( ...Many do not know their own menu well enough & what is available in the kitchen.
The alcohol served there is priced very low considering the fact the restaurant is in a centrally located Hotel. It costs about Rs. 40/- + taxes for a 30ml of anything.
Starters include fish/ prawn fry, Green Salads, Peanut Masala etc etc...
For the main course a must is the Chicken/ Vegetable stew with Appams. Do try any of the Prawn dishes - for 2 reasons, firstly they do not cost as much as prawns in another place & THEY ARE EXCELLENT!! The chef is definitely in love with his job - really you can feel it. The dishes are cooked to perfection, not a bit over or under - done.
Other items on the menu were Veg & Non Veg Thali, a variety of interesting Chicken dishes (in case you are not too fond of seafood & Paysam. I couldn’t try out everything I wanted to naturally, but that is my loss.
Overall, I highly recommend this place because of its central location, affordability & excellent chef. All my best wishes to him.
