During my lifetime in Pune ... I have been to lots of restaurants ... and I mean LOTS ... and I am happy to say that Pune has its nice share of eating joints with enough variety to keep everyone happy - both Vegetarians and Non Vegetarians.
One of the places that we bumped to of late is Coconut Grove.
Its surprising that not many people have heard of it ... but those who have, will swear that it is one of the best places to eat in Pune. Period.
It is situated just ahead of the Ambedkar Bhavan ( on the next lane ) while going towards Corporation from Station. ( Ambedkar Bhavan is on the Sasoon Road )
Anyways, enough with the directions.
What struck me the first thing when we went there was the service.
They dont have tonnes of parking space ... so all the parking is Valet. Havent seen this lots in Pune.
When you enter, you find the ambience very soothing. The place is bathed in soft yellow lights with nicely arranged seating.
The lights on the floor above are slightly brighter and make it a perfect family joint.
The seats are comfortable and the temperature is controlled - so its a nice place to be.
The waiters are very prompt and the service is again, excellent.
You basically dont have to tell them anything else except the order, everything is taken care off ... Quite a few things are complementary with other items .. which is a nice surprise for people visiting it for the first time.
This, finally gets us to the food part.
The food is flawless ... Even after visiting the joint so many times, I have never found any food item to be bad ... or even mediocre ... It was good !
The quantity is also sumptuous and you are not left out feeling cheated :) The place specialises in Konkan - Sea food ... but they also have fares from other food genres.
Though you wont get the plain Dosa which youd get at the local Udipi joint, you can pamper and treat yourself to more exotic Konkan fare which youd probably not find anywhere else.
My mom and brother love the Konkan food there, while me and my dad dont mind blissfully pigging out on the Mughlai fare.
Though the pricing is a touch on the higher side, but when it comes to value for money, no other place comes even close.
A must visit if youre in Pune anytime, and I guarantee you cant help but fall in love with the place.
