The movie describes the firm faith between Inman and Ada, the cruelty of war, the change of a person... Though Inman and Ada don’t know each other so well, as two young people, they have fantasy of love. So when they saw each other, they fell in love at once and the love grow deep easily. Not long after they fell in love with each other, Inman was called to serve in the war. During the cruelty and the horrible time in the war, Ada was the only thing to hold on in Inman’s heart. She was the one that supported Inman when he nearly gave up everything. When the dark filled Inman’s heart, Ada’s image appeared...that’s why he struggled to survive.
On the other side, Ada was helpless since her father died. She had never survive on her own before; there was always someone doing things for her. As a result, she was in terrible situation. During this hard time, Inman was always in her heart. He was the reason that kept her surviving. She had a strong faith for Inman and waited for his return...Both of them just had no choice but kept believing, thier love for each other went on and on...
However, the war will never understand love. Seeing the cruelty of war, Inman himself had changed and would never changed back, excpet his love for Ada. He learned to accept sorrows brought forth by war, death of his friends, a woman who was willing to do everything to protect her baby... Ada changed, too. With the help of Ruby, Ada learned to live on her own.
The whole movie gave a feeling of sadness, despair and growth. People do grow in such a desperate situation. After seeing the movie, I stayed in the cinema for a while, just thinking and chewing over the plot. My heart calmed down, feeling kind of sad but peaceful. What a war could bring to us is really overwhelming and hard to imagine from this peaceful era...How important it is for a person to have a faith inside, something to believe in, to hold onto...It is this faith that can support a person during the most harsh moment.
To appreciate the movie, one could read a little about the civil war first to have the basic knowledge about what’s going on. But the most important is, one should watch the movie with a calm and attentive heart, and he or she will get the most feeling out of the movie; any miss of the scene would be regrettabe and a great loss...
