Colgate means toothpaste, just like Kodak for the camera. Filipinos of my generation were born and raised in Colgate. I remember a time when the tubes were made of thin metal and my father used to press the tube with pliers just to get the remaining remnants of Colgate. At that time only Colgate was there, no other brand of toothpaste were sold in the market hence the reason why Colgate means toothpaste.
Colgate, as always, is fresh to the mouth with the minty flavor, good for the preservation of the teeth and could make your day even without a gargle. As the advertisements say, Colgate strengthens the tooth enamel and delays the onset of tooth decay. Most of the old people here have good teeth except for those who are fond of sweets. In my other review, I said brushing is not enough. True, teeth need flossing and proper care like a good gargle after eating sweets especially at bedtime. But I grew up without a gargle nor the floss, simply with teeth-brushing using Colgate.
For those with delicate skin, I suggest you wash your face thoroughly with soap, particularly the mouth area, because toothpaste is a skin irritant. Few know that toothpaste can cause acne or skin eruption. Try leaving a drop of Colgate in the skin overnight and it would develop a small spot of irritation tha becomes a big pimple or a small boil. For those with an impending skin eruption (boil), try applying Colgate overnight and the boil will surely erupt the next day. However, it leaves a blush unsightly spot on the skin.
Another good use of Colgate is in cleaning jewelries especially gold or silver earrings. Just apply a little dash of Colgate in the jewelry and use an old toothbrush to clean then wipe it with a soft cloth. For sure, the lustre of the jewelry will return. For other metals, Colgate can also be used. For dark spots in refrigerators, Colgate is a very good cleaning substance too. It brings back the whiteness.
Colgate has now many competitors and Close-up is the nearest to the throne of supremacy. But I think Colgate would be hard to beat in the marketing game because people in this part of the globe has that consumer habit of not really changing patronage of a product without valid and proven reasons. They say that toothpaste is all the same so why change brands.
Keep on brushing… with Colgate, that is.
