Spiti Valley attracted us and after checking with other tour operators, we finalized a Chandigarh-Shimla-Sipti Valley trip with Colors of India. Going by our previous experience with them, we believed they will do a good job of creating a good itinerary and organize a memorable trip from there on.
We had an indication of impending trouble just before the trip that the person who was interacting with us all along was suddenly no longer available to take our calls and we had to deal with a new person. Trouble started when we reached Shimla after a long drive from Chandigarh only find that the hotel that we had been booked in was more a lodge than a proper hotel. We started calling Colors and made sure they changed our accommodation to a better hotel after telling them that we had, from the start, clearly told them that we wanted 3-4 star accommodation in cities and whatever was best available in the remote areas that we had to stay.
As we when ahead on our trip, we realized that the itinerary was were badly constructed, this fact was accepted by their offices when we met them at their office later on our way back. Their coordination throughout the trip was very minimal with them not even telling the driver clearly what places he should take us to in Spiti Valley which could have led the driver to make extra money from us to show what we have already paid for.
Throughout the trip they did not meet many of their commitments, including the promise of sending a stand-in driver for us in Shimla when our driver had to go off to take care of a personal issue and sharing their senior management’s contact details for us to lodge a formal complaint.
I will not recommend Colors of India to anyone.
