Colva

Colva happened to us as an accident , but we do not repent for going to Colva . Colva is the longest beach in Goa . It is very close to Madgaon . It is known by various names at different places like Sernabatim , Benaulim etc .

The beach is simply fabulous . It has almost white soft sand stretching till horizon on either ends . Nice to go for a never ending stroll . The sea perhaps is dangerous for several reasons. The one I could see was it is teaming with millions of jelly fish. A walk along the shoreline and I am sure you will miss the count of dead or dying jelly fish lying in the sand. Just the other day somebody was bitten, poor soul. Must not even be aware what bit him under the water, a few jelly fish are poisonous. The beach is very heavily patrolled by vigilant and diligent  guards as well copters . No one is allowed to enter water deeper than the ankle .But there are several other thing people can do on the beach.

There are plenty of colorful and beautiful shells and conches on the shore – kids will love making designs or just collecting them .The tiny fishing villages by the beach are quite picturesque . The beach is very crowded and dirty – particularly near the main entrance which spoils the beauty of this pristine beach . I always felt that I should have visited this place a thousand  years before rather than now .However to avoid the crowd is not impossible taking into consideration the magnitude to which the beach stretches . Beach lovers may settle down in one of the several resorts in distant villages along the same beach as mentioned before . But the beach at Benaulim and its like  are also not very  peaceful as after all – Colva is a commercialized beach

There are many cheap places to stay near the main beach , but farther you go from the main entrance the cost rises , the amenities improve and the places are a little more peaceful . Kentuckee restaurant near the main entrance is a foodie’s delight. Serves delicious food. There are many other good hotels to choose from as Colva is a fully commercialized place. There are typical beach side curio shops , expensive and passable .

Colva has its pros and cons . Very beautiful shore but sea dangerous for swimming , good food and stay but too crowded . Colva is worth a visit  but not a nice place to stay if one expects tranquility.
