The overall packaging, promotion and cinematography makes it a treat to watch and the background music which is the lifeline of the movie. The running commentary has been used at places to cut time and keep the movie together seems odd but is not very irritating. Overall the presentation of the movie is very good and with very few glitches. The rating for the movie according to me is good, it is enjoyable movie and is like a modern day fairy tale as far as underworld goes.
All the characters in the movie have performed exceptionally well and for a change there are no problems when it comes to performance. Ajay Devgan ( Mallick) looks every bit like the Bhai he is portraying and Manisha Koirala adds to the glamour and does nothing much otherwise.
Though Mallick is the central character of the movie debutante Vivek Oberoi (Chandu) is the one who actually carries the movie around as, it is this character which goes through various phases of evolution during the course of the movie. He starts as a street urchin, a petty ccriminal and ends up owning half the underworld trade in MumBhai.
In other words it can be called a recruitment movie for the underworld which is going through an identity crisis these days. The rise of Chandu is meteoric by any standards and he does not go through any rough phase as the main character in Satya (could have been called Hatya without any major changes to the script) and gets everything very easily. It can really trigger the imagination of an entire generation of youngsters.
The so-called company is shown larger than life and is controlled by an old fragile person to start with and falls in to the lap of Mallick again without any problem. After the escape from India too the characters continue to rule the underworld with remote control( read mobile phone) with ease. Looking at the increased sophistication in the crime syndicate the total absence of internet is intriguing as these days it is the most important medium being used even by the underworld.
Secondly the total absence of any involvement in other sources of revenue for the company makes you doubt the genuine effort of the story teller to portray the real life. The nexus of underworld with the film industry which is shown in great detail is actually the outcome of the problem and not the main business of any company. These days the wayCompanies are involved in Anti National activities, drug trade, flesh trade or to a lesser extent smuggling has been given the go by and the villains are shown being involved in softer crimes like extortion and contract killing of politicians to make them more likable to the audience. This could also have been done to appeal to the large masses and make some money, but is as away from reality as it can be.
In a nutshell, there is no real story in the movie it just revolves around Chandu and his rise and fall as a gangster and to some extent the nexus between films, extortion money, construction business an the Underworld. If the director wanted to show the operation of a Crime Syndicate then he could have done more research on the ways and means of moving the funds around, various revenue stream and their share in the total business and things like that which could have actually demystified the actual crime scenario and relate to the audience and lived up to its name COMPANY – A Law and Order Enterprise.
