This review is for Compaq Evo N610v and not Compaq Evo N610c.
After using the laptop for last six month I can say that the portability of this laptop is very good though the same cannot be said of its overall looks. The laptop as a whole is user friendly. The DVD drive and Floppy drive is detachable from the same port and one can simply be without both to reduce the overall weight that to without the laptop being switched off. There are also other components that can be removed to reduce the weight. The ports and sockets are also well placed for user comfort and the same can be said of the keys (one can use the ctrl-alt-del key with one hand while same cannot be done for many Toshiba models).
The LCD is a big disappointment. It had conked off (gone dim of its own) once but by very good service back up of Compaq I had it replaced. Surprisingly screensavers, wallpapers, movies etc. do not appear very clear (it appears opaque, as if it is embossed or it is negative) if viewed from angle of more then 45 degrees from any side (top-bottom-left-right). This was never the case with any models of Toshiba!!
The most interesting part is the slight tingling sensation (electric shock) that it gives to you once your body touches the laptop (interestingly it happens only on trunk of human body and at times on hands), which is very uncomfortable. This to me is the most irritating factor of N610v laptop. It is very surprising as the end voltage is pretty meager along with the current but the tingling sensation, if it can be called that, is phenomenal.
Value for money, well I prefer the Toshiba for overall performance, looks, sturdiness – except portability!!
