Bi Monthly. Costs Rs.100 per annum.
===============
Let me warn you at the beginning that I am an interested party associated with the consumer movement.
However, I am only a subscriber of this magazine and does not do anything beyond reading the magazine.
This magazine costs Rs.20 each for a bi-monthly edition. (Rs.100 per year subscription).
The key advantage of this magazine is the superb product testing they do. They select the top 10 / 12 brands and subject them to independent lab testing on their functionalities, safety, standard compliance etc. It is not a surprise that many MNC and desi brands fail miserably in their test. They also give advice on the latest trends of products and update on technological developments. Recent reviews were on Fridge, Water Heater, Detergents etc. They publish articles on consumer issues.
Any subscriber of this magazine gets free legal consultancy for all the consumer issues.
This magazine does not entertain any advertisements to remain unbiased.
Now, the minus points...
Some of the articles are however written superfluously. Many known facts are repeated. The publishers should realise that the average reader of the magazine is already well informed about the common details... And, The magazine is too small. Average of about 40 pages. For a magazine for bi-monthly this is very small. (I realise that without ads the cost shoots up). These pages need to be increased for a meaningful information content. The qualityof the paper is very good and this can be compromised to give more content..
Also, this organization does not have any good collection / subscription mechanism. Typical of a non-profit organizational attitude.
The subscription can be made only at delhi and you need to send a DD (or a cheque with Rs.15 extra).
They should and can easily make arrangements with any of their legal members in all major cities.
If you want to sample couple of free issues, I think they will send one to you.
My advice (after studying the magazine for two years) is that this will be the best investment we can make on our best mouthshut tradition. Rs.100 per annum is not too much, isnt it..
