Any Problem, Patient? Oh WaitFirst Pay for Tests

My 69-year-old mother had to be taken to Continental Hospital for an emergency in early August 2025. The next morning, we consulted neurologist Dr. M.K. Singh, who advised a nerve conduction test costing ₹;5, 500. We paid in full and got the test done, but to our shock, the staff refused to share the report with us. They insisted:

You need to take a full-body checkup package first; only then will the doctor correlate and discuss the nerve test results.

Why is a paying patient denied access to their own test reports?

The following day, we reluctantly went for the full-body checkup package. To our surprise, a whole group of unrelated patients were also there for the same package. When my mother casually asked a fellow patient(Nirmalamma) why she was there, she said,

I have a hip problem. The orthopaedic doctor told me to go for the full-body package.

We began to notice a pattern: Regardless of the actual medical issue, almost every OPD patient was being funneled into these expensive diagnostic packages. The unsaid rule seems to be:

If you walk into Continental OPD, expect to spend a minimum ₹;10, 000 no matter what your ailment is.

When we finally revisited Dr. M.K. Singh with our test results, he casually told us everything was fine that the patient just needed good sleep and didn’t even refer to the nerve test he originally prescribed.

To top it off, during the scan process, the female staff handling bone densitometry was openly flirting and talking loudly on the phone with her boyfriend, paying little attention to patients waiting for their scans.

Final Thoughts:

I expected professionalism, transparency, and ethics from a hospital of this repute. Instead, I witnessed aggressive monetization, questionable prescription practices, lack of patient respect, and staff indifference. We felt like revenue targets, not human beings.
