* * * Well executed Contract!!! * * *

Water in a river not thinks that who swim in it, but finds a way to move.   A nation may not think about its people, but people should think about themselves and about the nation.  Your nation begins and ends with you.  It is your duty to protect it, not for the sake of the nation but for yourself.  Terrorism is a weapon used by politicians with religious fundamentalists to reach their goals.  It is the dirt making the water dirty.  Even if you decide to ignore, it doesn’t mean that terrorism will ignore you.  (These are the central thoughts from the film Contract I could gather).

Aman (Adwik Mahajan) was a military commando officer who breaks into the infamous terrorist Sultan (Zakir Hussein).   Between the gun and Sultan, some hard questions deviated Aman’s thinking and Sultan escaped.  Aman left the military and living a peaceful life.   The Mumbai police special officer (

Prasad Purandare

) approach Aman to intrude into the gang of underworld don RD (Sumeet Nijhawan) to reach to Sultan again.   However, Aman rejects the offer.   When Aman was visiting a temple with his family a bomb blast kills his only child and wife.  All determined Aman went to the police officer for a chance which he offered earlier to reach Sultan.   The contract is signed.  Contract is a story of how Aman, (changed name to Amaan Ali) completes his contract.

With contract, Ram Gopal Varma tries his luck with his safe bet genre that is serious, dark and violent cinema.   Contract is a film which falls in the bollywood category of Satya, Company & Gangster.  The theme told earlier several times in several forms.   Still, Contract makes an impact with a different story told in different circumstances.

The story is well knit and screen play is excellent.   Writer Prashant Pandey need special applauds.  Good work!!   Each and every character is well penned and the brave director identified the best suited faces to live it.   Even the small characters had identity and what they do is simply matching to their character and each action contributes to the perfection of the movie.   The director did an excellent job in contract.   Bollywood now have the old RGV back.

Adwik Mahajan

, the new found hero suite the role well.   He has a silent look but for the character he was perfect.     Sakshi Gulati was presented as a glamour doll in the early part of the film, but makes a strong comeback to leave her mark before the movie end.   Very well done!   Prashant Purandare was excellent.   Sumeet Nijhawan as RD was perfect where Upyendra Limaye as Goonga (one who looks for the head of RD) was superb.  Amruta Subhash lived her character as Goonga’s wife and what an impact the character leaves with a short role!   Zakir Hussain was good as usual.   In general, performance by all the cast were extra brilliant!

The music was quite ok, where I felt the choreography could have been better.

Cinematography started with a weak note with typical RGV angle experiments but after the initial scenes it all settled well and well supported the film from every angle.  Good work!  Editing was quite good.

There are several situations in the movie which leaves a mark I am not listing them where each one may take off some suspense from story.

Now, does the movie have some serious problems?  Getting used-to many of the bollywood movie styles I will say not many.  Still some exists.  Yes.  There is a missing link in the story at the very end, with regard to the underworld Don RD’s murder.  The author clears one but didn’t find the culprit.  I have a feeling that this RGV left intentionally where at the end they announce the contract is not ended.  May be the sequel will find its answers.  With beautiful Sakshi Gulati on side RGV can think of its sequel.  Make up of the Hero should have been taken care of better as well.  Also, the central message of the film can be easily misunderstood if it is not intended that way.

Overall, I am more than happy for RGV’s Contract.   It is a movie with action & violence but the strong story and excellent performance makes it different and a visual experience. If you can afford watching a movie with action you can go for it, it is a good movie.
