I converted my Toyota Yaris Verso to gas about three years ago. The conversion cost around £900 and took about 3 days. A valve-saver kit was also installed. As an average mileage driver, the cost of the conversion was saved within 2 years, and the performance of the car not much affected by running on gas.
An mpg of around 33 a gallon was achieved. On petrol, this was around 39. The main problem where I live in the UK, is sourcing LPG. There are 3 filling stations within 5 miles which have a gas filling facility, but it would seem that none of them are well maintained, and I find that often there is a sign on the pump sayingout of use. Quite often, all 3 garages have this problem.
Whilst petrol pumps are quickly repaired if faulty, the gas systems are often unusable for weeks at a time. In the winter, this is worse, because gas supply systems dont work well in low temperatures. Needless to say, I find myself purchasing petrol much more frequently than I would like!
I wonder how others who use LPG are getting on. There is still a National shortage of LPG garages, and I find that on long trips, I still need to fill up with petrol rather than LPG, because there is no gas on offer. Part of the problem on my Yaris, is that there was only space to fit a small gas tank, so frequent top-ups are needed.
On balance, I am satisfied with the gas conversion, which has saved a significant amount of cash, but the supply infrastructure is still very poor.
