Great weekend getaway place from Bangalore

Coorg is about 5 hours away from Bangalore if you are driving your own vehicle. If you want to get away from the concrete jungle and the daily pains of living in a traffic and pollution then Coorg is the place to be. This is a total change in environment where the only sounds are the chirping of the birds and sounds of nature. You think you have stepped into a different world. You have different choices on where you would want to stay in Coorg. There are great homestays.

The hotels are not so great unless you are on a very tight budget. What I have observed over the years is that Coorg has also become highly commercialized with the prices of accommodation going exponentially high. If you go on a long weekend holiday, you will find people from Bangalore have totally invaded the place ! If you are visiting Coorg for the first time, make sure you avoid holiday season and any kind of government holidays. This place can get crowded. One very noticeable thing is that you will find hardly any beggars on the street or near the temples.

If you are a vegetarian, it is hard to find a good hotel which serves nice and clean food. There is one restaurant called Rajadarshini in front of Raja Seat in Madikeri. This serves both veg and non-veg, the couple of times we visited this restaurant, the service was horrible, the quality of food was mediocre. You are better off going for food at Club Mahindra’s where food is excellent but a little pricey. You don’t have to be a member of club Mahindra’s to go have lunch/dinner.

Overall, it’s a great place to visit specially if you are a nature lover.
