KORPHOI IS MY FAVORITE GREEK ISLAND

The Greek name for Corfu is Korphoi. This Island is one of the Ionian Islands that is in the Adriatic Sea. It is the second largest Island in this chain and it also has the most rain than any other Island. It is between Italy and Albania. This didn’t look like any other Greek Island that I had ever seen because the architecture is a mixture of the Countries that conquered it, (Italy, France, Turkey and Greece).

There are high Mountains and green Valleys. The Town is also called Corfu. The population is about 30, 000 people. We were only here for three days so we didn’t take any tours. We walked into the Town every day, (even though it rained two out of the three days).

THE HILTON HOTEL:

It took us 15 minute to get to the Hotel from the Airport. The Hotel in on top of a Mountain in the Kanoni area that over looks the Town of Corfu, (on one side), and the azure Adriatic Sea on the other side. The lobby was large enough to hold an ’’army’’ and everyone took the opportunity to sit and chat in the comfortable Sofas and Chairs. Our Room was decorated in gold and black and looked like it was Phoenician. It had a balcony, a radio, was air-conditioned and had a telephone. The bathroom had a bathtub that could also be used as a shower. The amenities were a shampoo, conditioner and a skin lotion. There was a hair drier on the wall.

We only went out to eat one night and ate all of our meals at the Hotel. The have 3 Restaurants that served International, Greek and a Café. There was one Bar and a lot of Shops. They have a private beach, an indoor and outdoor swimming pool.

WHAT WE SAW:

We took a Taxi to get visit the Town. The ride took 15 minutes over a small winding road.

We visited THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM to see their collection that showed us the history of Corfu. We saw pieces on Ancient Coins, Drawings, Temples and Statues. There were tools from the Bronze Age and a Gravestone from the 16th Century.

We went to see THE WORLD OF THE DEEP that in near the New Fort. It was quite interesting because their collection of Photography. Other than we walked through the small cobble stone streets and did a bit of shopping.

THE ONE RESTAURANT WE WENT TO:

Yanni, (our Friend), heard of a fabulous Sea Food Restaurant and told us he had made a reservation for us and arranged for a Taxi to pick us up at 5 p.m.

We thought that it was rather early but he told us it was on another Mountain. My Husband sat in the front of the Taxi and Yanni, Val and I sat in the back seat. We drove for over an hours when the Sun set. It was pitch black outside and the road was a continual ’’s’ curves.

My Husband had his hands over his eyes the entire time as he was sure we were going to die. It took us another half an hour to reach the Restaurant.

Yanni paid the Driver and told him to wait for us. We all ordered fresh Lobster. Just before it arrived Val went to the bathroom and threw up.

She hadn’t told anyone she gets car sick when she has to sit in the back seat of a Car. She waited for us in the Taxi and the three of us shared the 4 Lobsters.

My Husband was very happy to give his front seat to Val on the ride back to the Hotel.

MY FINAL THOUGHTS:

Of all the Greek Islands I have visited this one is my favourite. If you haven’t been there I highly recommend it to you. Happy New Year.
