My experience with Corporation Bank is an interesting one. Maybe Im spoilt by ICICI Bank. ICICI has its own faults, like not being transparent about interest calculations, but when services are concerned, ICICI is the best.
I first started banking with them aver 8 years back. I was a student, and there were anyways almost no private bank willing to open an account for a student. It has always been a very low usage account. When I started working, I applied for their Debit card. Debit card was issued without much hassles, but I did not have much success using it. Once, I even submitted 100 rupee with this card at an ATM in bangalore. the machine swallowed it right in front of my eyes, but I am yet to see those 100 rupee in my account. Anyway, suddenly I wanted to open CorpClassic Account as I had managed to save some money after working for 2 years, and corporation bank offers better interest rates than ICICI. So one fine saturday morning, I went to open a new account with Corporation Bank. After being shuttled through 5-6 counters (for passbook, chequebook, online banking, term deposit formalities etc.) over a course of 2 hours, I emerged victorious with a new account. That day, I felt a sense of achievement. After all, I had managed to open an account within a single day with a government bank. I was asked to come for chequebook, passbook and online account details after a week. I dutifully went to the bank next saturday, but another hour of shuttling between the counters resulted in securing only the passbook and chequebook. After that, all my enthusiasm somehow vanished, and my efforts slackened. Months afterwards, I am yet to be able to activate online banking.
But I have one consolation. If it is so difficult for me to get anything done with them, how much more difficult will it be for someone else to get to my account :)
