I looked up Country Club Yelagiri website, and it seemed like a high end resort. So I called up Naveen Karunakaran(whose name is listed on the website) and made reservations for 2 nights. He said he had only 2 cottages available, each cottage has 6 - 8 cots, the rate was Rs 3500/night/cottage. We were a family of 4, did not need so many cots, and the price was also very high, but we had never been to Yelagiri before, we just got it. Naveen told me to tranfer Rs 7000 to his bank account, which I did.
(BIG MISTAKE - NEVER DO THAT) Upon arrival, we saw that the cottages were more like row houses, and from outside it looked fine. When we stepped in, a strong smell of Dettol, and a strong musty smell. We miserable 2 nts. - The mattresses and blankets had strong mildew odor. - The blankets had bugs that bit us at night. - The water was muddy, so we could not brush our teeth or take a bath for 2 days. - One of the tolets leaked when flushed. - It rained the second night, and water leaked into the rooms. - There were ants everywhere, in the bathrooms, bedrooms. - The outhouse was across, so in the mornings, we would sit outside and watch all the men go to the outhouse. - Naveen himself was conveniently out of town.
The Manager had a lobotomy done on him, and none of our complains seemed to sink into his head. Or maybe it did, he was very clever at disguising it. He kept saying that the owner will be back and we can talk to him, but that never happened. - So there was no way to get our money back, and we were just stuck there, in one of our most miserable experiences. - All I can say is that this was a horribly filthy place. We never got our money back. When we got back to Bangalore, we called up Naveen to complain, he quickly hung up, and never called be back again.
