Top Of The Chart Country Countdown

Music has always been a part of me. I cannot recall a phase of my life which I have spent without music. My passion for music changed with years. I started liking different types of music in different phases of my life and now I am swimming in an ocean of music surrounded by all genres of music without which I cannot imagine what life would be

Well let?s get to the point. With all the Raps, Rocks, Ballads, Trance, Rock n Roll, Alternative, Jazz, Blues and what not, the one that would stay evergreen for me is without doubt Country Music.

By Country music, I do not associate my passion with anybody on the likes of Shania Twain(I like her music though) who is considered to be a Country Music artiste(Which is what I came to understand by seeing her albums always in the Country Section of all music stores).

Country Music, in my opinion is nothing but a short story beautifully crafted and delivered in music form. It is such a delight to listen to these evergreen melodies. In general I have found them relaxing and never fail to bring a smile across my face. This review is just a countdown of my top 10 country classics in order.and here we go

10. The Gambler - Kenny Rogers

A simple narration of 2 bored people playing poker on the train. Read the lyrics, you will not feel it is a song. Listen to this song and you can actually see 2 bored people playing poker.

On a warm summers evening, on a train bound for nowhere

I met up with a gambler, we were both too tired to sleep

So we took turns at staring out the window at the darkness

The boredom overtook us and he began to speak

He said, son I’ve made a life out of reading people’s faces

And knowing what the cards were, by the way they held their eyes

So if you don’t mind my sayin’, I can see you’re out of aces

For a taste of your whiskey, I’ll give you some advice

So I handed him my bottle, and he drank down my last swallow

Then he bummed a cigarette and asked me for a light

And the night got deathly quiet, and his face lost all expression

Said, if you’re gonna play the game, boy, you gotta learn to play it right

9.Country Roads Take me Home? John Denver

A Classic country song which no country fan would have missed by one of the stalwarts of country music. Reminds me of hostel life going back home after a nightmare semester.

Almost heaven, west virginia

Blue ridge mountains

Shenandoah river -

Life is old there

Older than the trees

Younger than the mountains

Growin? like a breeze

Country roads, take me home

To the place I belong

West virginia, mountain momma

Take me home, country roads

8. Dallas? Alan Jackson

Alan Jackson?s songs have a great touch of country associated to it. You can classify some of his songs as blues also. This is a simple love song. Dallas(The Girl) brought up in Texas, living in Tennessee is leaving for Texas and this guy ponders how to make her stay in Tennessee

Dallas packed her suitcase

And drove off in the brand new car I bought her

She made leaving me look easy

I wish she?d made it look a little harder

I took her out of texas

When she was just a girl

But old tennessee and me

Couldn?t take texas out of her

On how I wish dallas was in tennessee

If I could move texas east

Then she?d be here with me

Then nothin? else would come between the two of us

If dallas was in Tennessee

7. Leaving on a Jet Plane - John Denver

Another Gem in Denver’s Cap. Country fan lovers.Have you missed this. I am sure you haven’t. Early morning and He is leaving(Don’t know where) and she is sleeping and this song just sings what he was thinking.

All my bags are packed, I’m ready to go

I’m standin’ here outside your door

I hate to wake you up to say goodbye

But the dawn is breakin’, It’s early morn

The taxi’s waitin’, He’s blowin’ his horn

Already I’m so lonesome, I could die

So kiss me and smile for me

Tell me that you’ll wait for me

Hold me like you’ll never let me go

¡®cause I’m leavin’ on a jet plane

Don’t know when I’ll be back again

Oh babe, I hate to go

6. Tall Tall Trees - Alan Jackson

This is one of the most delightful songs where the Guy promises to get the girl whatever she wants. Read the lyrics, you will smile. Listen to the song, you will jump. Wonder how you can make such a simple love song.!

If you wanna drive a big limousine

I’ll buy the longest one you’ve ever seen

I’ll buy you tall, tall trees and all the waters in the seas

I’m a fool, fool, fool for you

If you wanna own a great big mansion

Well I’ll give it my utmost attention

I’ll buy you tall, tall trees and all the waters in the seas

I’m a fool, fool, fool for you

Well I’m a fool oh, for you

It may take a while but I’ll prove it’s true

Well if it’s lovin’ you want then I’ve got it

If it’s money you want then I’ll get it

I’ll buy you tall, tall trees and all the waters in the seas

I’m a fool, fool, fool for you

5. Sunshine Girl - Herman’s Hermits

I don’t know if you can classify this as Country or Oldies either way it is lovely song.

It is such a happy song you will fall in love with this the first time you hear it. Actually this song made me to get Best of Herman’s Hermits which did not disappoint me at all. A fantastic collection of happy songs and catchy tunes

Sunshine girl I’m leaving soon

I’ll be back some day

Sunshine girl I feel your eyes on me

Your looks excite me

I wonder can it be

Do you invite me

To hold you tightly

How you delight me

My sunshine girl
