Court, a multilingual courtroom drama in Marathi, Hindi, English, and Gujarati, will finally see the light of day in Indian theatres.
According to a press release sent out by the makers(as well as a tweet from its official account), the critically-acclaimed debut of writer-director Chaitanya Tamhane 28-year-old director Tamhane, who along with Gomber has taken the film to several parts of the world, feels that this “homecoming” is going to be special.
“I have a feeling that the film will be most relatable and enjoyable to viewers here, as the film depicts the everyday lives of ordinary people in a simple, and sometimes humourous way.The film, which has received glowing reviews in publications all across the world, is a courtroom drama that has been praised for its realism and attention to detail.
Focusing on the trial of an ageing folk singer who has been arrested for abetting a sewerage worker’s suicide through his supposedly inflammatory songs, Court puts the Indian judicial system under a microscope. By observing not only the proceedings of the case, but also the lives of all the players involved, it paints a picture of a rapidly-changing India at odds with its diversity and history.
