Now I have to confess that when I first saw previews for this movie, I thought it looked
pretty stupid and really had no desire to see it.
Anyway some of my friends came over last night and they happened to bring “Coyote
Ugly” with them. They kept telling me what a good movie it was so I gave in and watched
it.
I can’t say that my assumptions about the movie seeming pretty pointless and stupid were
100% wrong, but they weren’t quite right either.
The movie is about a small town girl named Violet who decides to move to New York and
give a shot at living by herself and pursuing her dream which happens to be song writing.
She tries and tries to get her tapes to an agent or basically anyone that will listen. The only
person who ends up with one of her tapes is a man who is a grill cook at one of the first
clubs she went to. Then one morning she happens to be in a small restaurant where she
first spots the “Coyotes” curious about exactly what these beautiful women do to make so
much money Violet follows them to their bar, called (of course) “Coyote Ugly”.
Basically what these women do is dance on the bar, shake their stuff, and occasionally
serve drinks. Violet figures that she has nothing to lose and ends up working there. Later
in the movie there is a really wild night at the bar and things have gotten really out of
hand. Violet ends up on top of the bar (for the first time!) with a mic in her hand singing
to the juke box. Everyone stops and listens to her (pretty unbelievable) and problem
solved and Violet is on her way to making it.
There were a few high points in the movie, but I thought is was just another movie
showing everyone how if you get some beautiful women put them in skimpy clothes, it’ll
sell.
The plot was ok, the acting was better though. I probably enjoyed the music and the
soundtrack more than anything else.
If you feel like seeing a pointless movie, check out “Coyote Ugly” because I suppose
someone’s bound to make worse............
