,
I was barely of drinking age when I first came across Creme de Menthe. As a young, lean and hungry 18 year old, it was great fun touring the local hostelries and trying out new drinks. During this rather experimental period one of the drinks that caught my fancy was Creme de Menthe. I think it was the lush green colour that I was really attracted to.
After some time I must say I got rather bored with this liqueur. Subsequently although I have tried it again from time to time, it has never been a great favourite with me.
Creme de Menthe is a peppermint flavoured liqueur and comes in two varieties - green and clear white. As far as I can tell there is no other really discernible difference between them. As regards alcohol by volume content this liquer is ranked at 25% (50 Proof), it is thus nor particularly strong as far as liquers go.
You can drink it on its own as a liqueur, on the rocks or as part of a long drink. On its own frankly I think one or at most two glasses is more than enough.
It is used by bartenders in numerous cocktails. You might not be too suprised that it is an ingredient in such cocktails as Emerald Isle, Emerald Forest, Eskimo Jo, Irish Whip, Grasshopper, Shamrock and Sante Shot.
It is also used in a surprisingly wide range of recipes such as Creme de Menthe Cheesecake, Chocolate Mint Pie and Creme de Menthe Balls.I do believe it is also added to coffee.
Summing up I would say that Creme de Menthe is not one of my favourite liqueurs, I really rate it rather poorly as a stand alone drink. It is, in my view, rather sickly and boring, and whilst it looks really delicious, its taste is nothing to shout home about !
Thanks very much for kindly reading this review!
