"ICC atlast finds sponsors for 20-20 World cup".
"Big three(Sachin, Sourav, Dravid) Back off T-20 World Cup".
"20-20 is a Bowlers nightmare".
These are jus press releases for a common man
but for a
die-hard cricket fanatic, these statements argues to think deep and analyze the future of cricket.
When first ODI’s were introduced Many great cricketers made a mockery of it calling it Unproffesional and Dishonourable. Those were the times when ODI’s had 60 overs each. It was then reduced to 50 overs each, the current format whcih we are all so familiar with. When we watch a regular ODI match is quite Oobvious that the first 10 overs and the last 10 overs attarct much attention. But here we are speaking in the language of a common man. One who needs to be entertained, One who wants to spend his half an hour in an exciting way. But a deeper insight reveals, Cricket is not pure entertainment, sadly it has been made so throughout the world, more so in India. Its not a movie to expect 100% entertainment. Its a game with mortals with flesh and blood like u and me playing the game to earn a living.Even in a movie there are parts which are not really entertaining but still contribute to the overall entertainment of the movie. Similarly the match takes of in an exciting way and in the middle it also needs to provide the players, to use the skills they ve learnt. To apply the tactics they ve discussed. To plot brilliant ploys for the opponents. The climax of course will be entertaining.
But in a 20-20 match, this beautiful phase where Minds do battle, Skills are tested and Missiles are evaded is jus not there. It all boils down to mindless hitting from the time they say start to the time they scream STOP!STOP!. Just imagine take ur fav movie. Say u have about 10 smashing and really entertaining scenes in it. Will u watch and enjoy if u were shown only those 10 scenes without the interconnectivity. U dont. U simply cant watch it. Infact u ll hate it.
It would be fair to say the 20-20 is a "lop-sided" game. The so called "New" rules say it. This game is for the batsmen. Just for them. The Bowlers are just queued up as Goats lined up for massacre. The No ball rule is jus a shocker!. A free hit.Oh my godness. The batsmen are really lucky to say the least!. More then the demoralizing aspect for the bowler, it is simply not fair when a game which asks for Murder of a community in the name of "Entertainment"!. Pure Lovers of the game and Real players of the game will know what I am sapeaking about!. No wonder the big names avoided the T-20 World cup!.
In a world where Money speaks, Cricket has been markted exceedingly well by its advisories forgetting the Strain and preassures a player undergoes each time. A 2 hour Foot ball game has more heart attacks happening on the field. reason?.Pressure. Jus 2 hours and voilent fans screaming.u have to perform. Absolutley ’No’ rest for the body and for the mind in those 2 hours!. Cricket is jus following that. Yes. This format will increase the pressure of players. Who knows, Soon a cricketer may clutch his chest and lie in the field if this continues.
But the saying "Be a Roman while in Rome" applies well here. In a Cricket frenzy nation where ppl worship mortals, make an ordinary crickter feel super hero(when he wins one match.lol!) it is in some way the duty of crickters to entertain the masses. They have such status, such popularity, such wealth, such Image cos of the people. The World has changed to.nobody drives an Enfield Explorer now, cos its an era of CBZ’s and Pulsars. Similarly the Game has to change with the likes of the audiences. The Players of today need more Grit that technique, more Guts than patience, more Nerve than Stamina!.
Yes, I felt really sad for Shaun Pollock, when he was Scythed, Slaughtered, Smoked and Totally Annihilated by Chris gayle last night. But when so many people were enjoying it, the pain of one person is not of much concern. Perhaps much worse can happen to lesser bowlers. May their souls Rest in Peace.
Long Live Cricket!
