Do we need a change?

Thanks to John Wright and his boys for providing one of the finest eras of Indian cricket after Kapil Dev and his gang managed the big trophy. But much before we realize that we are climbing up the ladder of performance, we find ourselves in grave. This really makes one doubt whether these were the same old players who turned the tide in India’s favor. As I visualize, only three changes have happened. One and the most important- Mr. Dalmiya vacating the chair of President, BCCI. But mind you he is still out there controlling things. Second, Ian Chappell replacing Mr. Wright. Third, our batting brilliance Sachin off the team. Overlaying these changes upon the changes of performance makes one doubt whether the performance was only dependent on the coach and Sachin (Sorry, Dalmiya is the best player off the field and cricket is played on the field). Should we brush our recent failures aside saying that players are rusty, they need some more time to find out their forms, the coach needs to spend a little more time with the players, etc. as reasons. Or should questions like why is Saurav picked up just to captain a losing side. I wish I see a captains knock turning things for India. In a populated country like ours it astonishes to say that but for one, we were not able to find a guy who could lead a bunch of eleven. Did we ever attempt to find one? Rahul Dravid, is in a pity state. He doesnot know what his job really is. Is he just a make shift captain always. This reminds me of Mr. O. Paneerselvam of Tamil Nadu. If a player is out of form he better gets back to the domestic level and gives the position to the next one than play in 20 ODIs to announce his retirement. In the past we have been strict upon players who failed to perform. Are certain players important for BCCI or winning matches? We should honestly thank JP Yadav and Irfan for saving our face from a humiliating defeat against Newzealand. A change in thinking, a change in attitude is required. Saurav, its the final call. A curriculum vitae showing your past performances or the number of runs you have against your name will not win matches for you. Beating minnows and adding this to your success rate is no better a deal. If you find the hot seat no more manageable give it up and handle your bat. If you find even the latter difficult, the domestic cricket the place to find solace.
