It is a pretty tough job to select jus 10 players and brand them good or bad in oneday cricket....but has to be done .... in my list of ten...I don’t go by averages....or by stats...I select people who revolutionized the one day cricket........ they are rated in an order...in a countdown manner
10.Joel Garner
.... the gaint...6ft8inches....the batsmen felt the ball was commin rite from the sky when he delivered the ball....he had the most devestating ball the yorker....which was nearlly unplayble consdering the height from which the ball got delieverd...his career economy is 3.06.....and average of 18.84
9.Sanath Jayasuriya
.......the one who brought excitement to oneday cricket....with his might hitting he rose to zenith during the 1996 worldcup...he was man of the series durin 1996 world cup.....in his 16 centuries 15 have come in winning cause...he is a useful bowler too....with his left arm orthodox bowling he has taken 253 wickets...he has a strike rate of 88.94 in his batting.
8.AdamGilchrist
......the devastating opening batsmen cum wicket keeper.....he is a two time world cup winner......attacking batsmen and a brilliant wicketkeeper...he holds the record for most no. of dismissals by a wicketkeeper in odi innings.....he has 322 dismissal as wicket keeper...has strike rate of 94 and has 10 centuries under his belt.
7.Waqar Younis .
......when u say reverse swing then u hav got to remember younis...the man who mastered the art of reverse swing was unplayable durin his early years when his pace was really fury.....he has 14 4 wicket hauls and 13 5 wickets hauls...this shows his ability to take wickets..... he has 416 wickets under his belts...his inswinging yorkers were nightmares to batsmen
6.Lance Klusner
.......the perfect allrounder....u can’t distinguish him as a batsmen who could bowl or a bowler who could bat....he was jus perfect with his might hitting and accurate medium/fast bowling........he has 187 wickets at an average of 29 and strike rate of 90 with average of 42 and two centuries with his bat.....he was the man of the series in 1999 world cup.....
5.Jonty Rhodes
.....the man is neither selected in my list for his batting ...nor he could bowl...he is in my list just for his feilding....he would easily save 30-40 runs in match...take some catches out of nowhere...wat else do a team need ...he would be in any one’s 11 jus for his fielding...such was the quality of his fielding....(highlight of his fielding career...imazmam’s run out in 1992 world cup and sachin’s catch which he took diving)
4.Wasim Akram
...only bowler who ruled in the batsmen’s game....he could swing the ball either way...batsmen couldn’t do anything ......he is the highest wicket taker in odi’s he has 502 wickets with ave of 36 and economy of 3.89.......he was the one who took two major wickets in the finals of 1992 worldcup.....hence helpin pakistan to win the world cup...
3.Sachin Tendulkar
...he is the batsmen who the great donald bradman compared himself with.........he is devastating batsmen with such great consistency......he could tear apart any attack single handedly...any team will fear him...he can demoralise any bowler with his brutal batting...there was period when the whole indian team depended on him.... he has more than 13000 runs at an average 45 and strike rate of 86 with 37 hundreds....he is the al time highest rungetter and century maker in odi history...he is pretty useful bowler...a paterner ship breaker he has won matches with his bowling too...he has 116 wickets under his belt
2.Micheal Bevan
.....he is coined with the word ’finisher’....he is mister cool ...he can win u matches from near imposible stages....he bats at 6 or 7 and his average is 53...the highest average in odi’s ...that speaks about him...he calculates his inninings so very perfectly.......if u let him survive he is goin to win matches........he hit last ball 4 to help his country win against west indies...he is 3 time world cup finalist...2 time winner of this cup...he played important roles in both the tournaments....he is one of the greatest runner between the wickets...he scores most of his runs by running rather than by scoring in boundries...u might well see him score century with 3 0r4 boundries......such is his talent
1.Vivian Richards
.......this would say everything about him....he was tendulkar’s idol.......he has played 3 world cup finals ...won the world cup two times.....captained his team in a worldcup........he was the gretest batsmen in ODI’s ...he hit the ball so hard...bowlers feared to bowl to him.....in age of fast bolwers like imran khan, lille, hardley, jeff thompson, kapil dev...he never wore an helmet in his life...its some thing which shows his guts...he would just walk in as if he is the king of the game giving mortal fear to the bowlers...if he gets goin he goes on ...he has high scoring innings like 189*, 181, 153*, 149....bowlers jus didn’t know where to bowl to him....he scored 181 in world cup match and 138* in 1979 world cup final......he has an average of 47 with a strike rate of 90.......he was a useful offspinner with 118 wickets and 2 5wicket hauls
