Hi Everybody,
Cricket is a passion in India and cricketers are treated like gods. We love our cricketers especially batsman and India has produced some of the finest batsman in world cricket. I would like to name five of my choice here in this review
1) Sachin Tendulkar – Easily the best batsman in world cricket today. Not only he scores heavily but demolishes every attack. He is the world record holder for most number of runs and centuries in one dayers and joint record holder for most number of centuries in test cricket with Sunil Gavaskar. The best compliment he got is from Don Bradman who said that Sachin’s style resembles his.
2) Sunil Gavaskar – Previous record holder for the most number of runs scored in test cricket and joint record holder for most number of centuries in test, he is my second favorite. Scored 13 of his 34 centuries against West Indian attack consisting of Andy Roberts, Joel Garner, Malcom Marshall and Michael Holding . He is the best opening batsman India ever produced
3) Rahul Dravid – Nicknamed ‘The Wall’ he is technically perfect I’ve ever seen. Likes to frustrate the bowlers and puts a price on his wicket. Most of his shots are in copy book fashion especially the cover drive. In one dayers though he was slow, has improved a lot nowadays.
4) Gundappa Vishwanath - Viswanaths batting was epitomised by his wristy elegance and delicate timing, and he holds a peculiar record of never having scored a century in a losing cause. His unbeaten, matchwinning 97 against a rampaging Andy Roberts at Madras in 1974-75 is considered among the best knocks witnessed on Indian soil. He also played an important part during Indias historic runchase against West Indies at Port of Spain in 1976-77 when he scored 112 to help India chase 400 + runs in the 4th innings. Vishwanath also had a brief stint as the Indian captain in 1979-80.
5) Dilip Vengsarkar- A reliable batsman at No. 3 for more than a decade. Was consistent enough to score 6868 runs at an healthy average of 41.13. Nicknamed as ‘Colonel’ he has the distinction of scoring three consecutive test match centuries at lords. Scored four consecutive centuries in four matches in 1986-87 when India won. He was the worlds best batsman in 1986 and 1987
There are other good batsman like Vijay Hazare, Vinoo Mankad, Mohd Azharuddin to name a few but I find the above mentioned batsman the best in business.
I don’t know if I have missed any better batsman, Would like to have comment on them if I have missed any of the fine batsman.
“HAVE A GOOD DAY”
