Well, I just edited my review on the Indian Cricket team for 2007 world cup and this one caught my eyes. Being an avid cricket buff, I could not help but to give me current world XI. Most of the team is based on their current form.
Greme Smith(Captain)
Adam Gilchrist
Ricky Ponting
Sachin Tendulkar
Inzamam Ul Haq
6. Brain Lara
Andrew Flintoff
Shaun Pollock
Glen Mcgrath
Mohammed Asif
Muthiah Muralitharan
it is amazing that I was struggling to find the best right hand opener in the world today and I just could not. All the best openers today are left handed. I was tempted to get Chris Gayle or Sanath Jayasurya for the opening slot, but fixed on Greme Smith simply because he is the best in the business and I wanted some one who can be a good foil to Gilchrist.
The rest of the team is pretty fine and every one picks up themselves. Again, I was tempted to bring in Rahul Dravid for Lara or Inzamam. But, the weight of Lara and Inzamam was too much for me bring in Rahul.
In the bowling, I thought to bring in a tear away fast bowler like Bret Lee, Shoaib or Shane Bond, but again the talent of these guys is simply too much for me to ignore. If these 5 bowlers bowl in tandem and 3 of them are coming good on thier day then pretty much assured, the opposition will have a horrid time.
Another factor that crossed my mind is batting abilities of 3 bowlers and I choose for very specialised bowlers than bits and pieces. The logic is if the 8 batsmen who are the best in the business cannot do anything, the last 3 will definitely not. There is no point in having a lesser bowler because he is a decent batsman.
This team I believe should be able to chase and set any target with ease.
The most unlucky ones to be left out are Jacques Kallis, Mohammed Yusuf and Rahul Dravid. Well, there cannot be more than 11 players in a team. Well, these might be part of the opposition XI which I think will be as good as this one.
