Hey! What's up croc?

The reality is that we don’t want reality. We want to be escapists – that’s fine as long as you are dreaming and it’s just you and you. Our television sets are ravaged, yes they are by the superficial family dramas and so-called sitcoms and things like that! Yet I’m glad that the little niche that is there hasn’t been wasted.

So moving straight to the point let me tell you guys, I love crocodiles as much as I love Darwin and anthropology and the other living things on earth. (I’m not so sure about human beings!) That reminds me nostalgically of David Copperfield reading out his book on crocodiles to his Peggotty dearest. And that’s why I love watching “The Crocodile Hunters” - telecasted on the Discovery Channel and Animal Planet.

The show:

At this point, I should tell you all that this programmme is nothing about hunting crocodiles – which is animal abuse! Instead, its all what you can do best to our eco-system by rescuing the reptilia on our planet. That’s exactly what Steve Irwin and wife Terri do.

Wading through muddy waters and marshes, grabbing these cold-blooded creatures through their bare hands and lifting them on their shoulders bringing to their natural habitat – that is what it is all about. Moreover, this show focuses in detail about their natural habitat, their behaviour, and their instincts. They also handle snakes in a Tarzan fashion, oozing out the poison through their fangs. Every episode is a new adventure unlike those boring documentaries with an epic-like narration– once they had come to India also!

My views on crocodiles and the show:

Talking so much about crocodiles, I hate this cruel misconception that crocodiles are ugly, they certainly aren’t! Look at their eyes; they are even more beautiful than the cat’s! It’s a marvel to watch them swim in their mud bath and zap their tails like the dragons! Certainly, they aren’t like cats and they have a world of their own…they do not like being pampered! Baby crocs are very adorable, makes me want them to give a little peck! Snakes, they have keener instincts, I’m sure Sherlock Holmes took some lessons from them! Many call them ’’cold-blooded’’ in the implied sense, they are mistaken because what they see are actually their defence abilities.

Moving to the show, it can truly be a good learning experience. Having a close encounter with these crocs can ward off your irrational phobias, believe me they are nothing the way you think! (What a shame snakes topped the poll of our greatest fears). Steve Irwin is a funny guy, I love the way he talks and comments! (Oh No! Not to be confused with Steve Martin, our good-ol comedian)

Well, I’m thinking of a vacation to Amazon forests, care to accompany me? Hoping not to be branded anti-human!

Moral of the review:

It’s better to watch crocodiles than shed crocodile tears!
