A few days ago on my wedding anniversary we bought a black forest cake from croissants, Bandra. We have been going there since college days. However, when we tasted the cake we found it to be dry, tasteless and was basically a cream cake and not the traditional Black forest recipe. The original recipe requires that the cake have cherry topping and frosting in between each layer of cake. The cake itself has chocolate and is black in colour.
At the croissant cake shop in Bandra I noticed the air-con was ineffective, there were flies sitting on the products on display inside the glass cases and the ambience of the shop was shabby and dull. When I received a call from the Business development manager, Mukesh Chiblani he spoke loudly in a harsh and hostile tone and informed me that it was a black forest cake Because ‘They make it like that’. He also questioned me as to why I had called him up when the people at the store had already informed me about the same. I told him that they had simply found a cheaper alternative to making a cake by saving on time and ingredients. He however continued to be defensive and rude.
The project manager who called me later resisted believing that the cake did not have the traditional ingredients (cherries for starts) for a black forest cake. However she claimed the flies were present due to a broken glass in the display case!!! I however refuse to return to such a place where they charge too much for a place with health safety violations, for a place where they serve a simple cream cake and refer to it as an expensive, exquisite, black forest cake. And lastly for a place whose senior officials have no courtesy to admit their dishonesty and who have little regard for courtesy.
