Before I took a Tata Sky connection I always believed that the Tata group is honest and provides good service. The Tata Sky connection proved it all wrong.
My recent visit to the Croma store (Retail chain of the Tata Group) only confirmed my opinion about this group. I visited the Croma store in Mulund (Near the Mulund depot at Check naka) on 5th February 2011. I wanted to purchase a water heater. There were not many brands available so I chose a Racold Water Heater 15 Litres Vertical Model.There was a price tag adjacent to the product which read MRP Rs.7K+ (I don’t recollect the exact amount) and Croma Price Rs.6385. Croma stores have a similar tag for all their products. I took delivery at the store and returned home. The Plumber who came to fit the heater opened the box and said that the product has been used elsewhere. He showed me the teflon tape stuck to the water inlet and outlet and said that this is used only when the fitting is done. He advised me to return the product. I spoke to the store and complained that I have been given a used product. When I noticed that the product is used, I checked the MRP, and was shocked to note that the MRP was only Rs.6515. I felt cheated. A discount of Rs.130 could have been given by any shop.
Why visit Croma? I could have negotiated for more elsewhere. I mentioned this also to the store. After several phone call, all made by me despite the fact that I was promised a return call each time and never came, I was told that the product would be replaced. This is after I threatened that I would file a consumer complaint on Monday. I went back to the store and got a replacement. I went back to where the product was displayed and noticed something shocking. The label was changed. The tag now ready MRP and Croma Price Rs.6385.
What cheats. I told mr. Shirish at the store that you people are great, you have acted very quick and replace this tag.
I took photos of the tag and other tags at the store and can show it to anyone who wishes to see them.
Croma stores:They are the biggest frauds ever seen. Never buy anything from tata’s croma stores.
