I purchased an Amazon Kindle e-reader* from
https://cromaretail.com(Order
no SLE00150091 Kindle e-reader Wi-Fi, 6” E Ink Display). I paid Rs.6999I-
snd received it on April 2, 2013.
I wanted to read pdf and word documents(for an exam). Croma claimed on
their website that the Kindle they sell can do this.(Marked in red in the
second image below) These images of their website were taken on April 5,
2013.

Unfortunately this Kindle model does not allow one to read pdfs
comfortably as it does not have text reflow for pdf. So it is not possible
to read pdfs smoothly, especially pdfs with mathematical equations.
It does have text reflow for kindle format, however it is very tedious to
convert my pdf textbooks to kindle format and then too the equations are
distorted.
Also, it does not allow one to read MS WORD documents(doc and docx). The
kindle does not even show the documents.
All this in effect means, I can read only kindle books I buy from Amazon.
I have already paid a considerable amount for this kindle and cannot afford
to pay Amazon for pdf to kindle conversion for every book that I need to
read.
On April 5, I requested Croma to please cancel my order and issue me a
refund. I received one mail on April 5, from Croma that they are looking
into the matter. Then I received a call from Amazon office in Noida. They
converted my pdf files to kindle format and sent them to me; but again, the
results were unsatisfactory: I could not read the mathematical equations,
and there were huge blank spaces and other format errors in the book.
Afterwards, I sent three mail reminders to Croma, but did not receive a
response. I called their customer care three times; they put me on hold for
35 minutes(I have recorded the calls).
Once they just disconnected the call. Finally, they told me they would
resolve the issue within 24 hours. They never did.
I learnt the lesson the expensive way: NEVER TRUST CROMARETAIL.

Updates:
22/4/2013: A Cromaretail officer called me today at 6:18 pm and after verifying the issue, gave the assurance they would sort it within 24 hours or else, give a refund. Thanks, Mouthshut!
UPDATE 29/05/2013: As of today, Croma and Amazon have kept their mouths shut permanently. No communication whatsoever. The Kindle is gathering dust in my cupboard. Its a bad buy if you dont read Amazon fiction.
