I bought a Hitachi refrigerator(product link below) at a Croma store in New Delhi. I was encouraged to buy an extended warranty, which I did. A year later there was a minor problem. I called Croma(many times), they sent a technician who told me that he had never seen the make or model of fridge before. I thanked him and asked him to leave.
I made another complaint, which got no response at all. I made a third complaint, citing the previous two and was told the complaint would be "escalated". Several days laterI received a call from someone claiming to be from TataAIG. He told me "get it repaired by hitachi and we will give you refund of cost". I asked him to send me an email confirming this, but he did not.
Further calls to the helpline number have been of no use. Today I called the helpline asking for a refund of the extended warranty amount and was told that I would have to deal with the extended warranty people. Going by past experience this means nothing will happen. I went to croma because it was a Tata company. I guess, even Tata is like the rest of retail in India. Sad!
I am getting Hitachi to fix my complaint. I suppose I should go to a small claims court to get my extended warranty amount back!
