Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is the first Chinese movie Ive seen. It was certainly different from the European and American movies I am used to seeing and, in fact, I was only curious about seeing it because of all the Oscar nominations it has got.
Costumes in the movie are remarkably designed, scenarios are beautiful and awe inspiring, the photography is excellent, colours are bright, special effects were wonderfully mastered, fighting scenes were amazing, and, basically, the shooting technique was great, overall.
On the other hand, the plot of the movie is not only ridiculous, but boring and confusingly presented. Basically, it is about a sword that has been stolen from a Chinese warrior and how the characters of the story struggle to recuperate it. The way the characters are presented makes it very hard for one to determine who is who at certain times, besides that, the plot is incredibly boring, and confusing by itself, for it being some kind of primitive magical realism. Also, I should tell you, people actually fly in this movie.
The performances were also quite unreal and mediocre, they being worse than one can usually expect from young, unprofessional actors.
As a conclusion, I will tell you this: If you are an admirer of the techniques used in shooting movies, you will certainly be amazed by this movie. On the other hand, if you want to have a good time watching a movie with an interesting plot, then you should definitely watch something else.
