Over the past two weeks, I have been playing Crysis 3. But now I’ve finished it and I’m back to being bored and so I did the next best thing- Write a review on it. So here goes.

For those of you who don’t know, Crysis 3 is the 3rd installment of the crysis series sea science-fiction shooter game which is a set in a post-apocalyptic future where a group of technologically advanced aliens called Ceph has taken over the world and a private company named C.E.L.L is harvesting energy from these aliens. We are playing as Major Laurence Barnes or known by his Nanosuit name-Prophet. Crysis 1 was almost entirely set in a jungle while Crysis 2 was set in New York. EA has listened to its fans carefully and given them a game which everyone can play- the fans of the first game who loved stealth and camouflaging in the jungle and to the fans of Crysis 2 who wanted more of a run-and-gun sort of feel to the game. The game seamlessly transcends the barrier and is set in in an urban environment which is almost overrun by lush green vegetation.

My favorite part of the game is none other than the main element- the Nanosuit. You’re trying to break into a top secret facility without getting noticed and the just by the hit of a button you become invisible. You are fighting a bunch of aliens and you’re losing. What do you do? You engage the Armor mode and make yourself stronger than a concrete wall. The game makes you feel like YOU are the one who is trying to save the world. It makes you feel like YOU are Prophet. Each new level presents its own new challenges. The Nanosuit doesn’t do your dirty work for you but instead helps you accomplish your goal.

And then there is the predator bow. What’s not to love about shooting arrows through the heads and necks of mere mortals? The bow does feel a bit too powerful. It’s obvious that the bow is superior to any human weapons to a certain point when it just becomes silly to use ordinary weapons. The fact that you can take down a helicopter with two thermite shots is a bit too exaggerated. But it is handy piece of kit. It allows you to stay completely cloaked while firing which essentially makes you The Predator.

The visuals in Crysis 3 are just stunning. This game will eat up modern PCs on its ‘high’ setting, let alone ‘very high’. But don’t feel bad about lowering your settings. Even in low, this game is a beauty to behold. The developers at Crytek have worked day and night just to give you a beautiful experience and that is literally in your face. Your buddy, Psycho, returns and the facial features of the character has been meticulously crafted. Each glorious detail is visible to us in stunning clarity and the best thing in this game is its graphics.

Overall, the game just falls short of the class of the first two games. In capturing the essence of both the previous games, Crysis 3 loses its individuality. It feels like you are playing the previous games at once. All in all it’s a good game for FPS fans and alien game fans alike and I strongly urge others to play this game. And hell, that damn overpowered bow is impossible to hate.
