Whip out the popcorn and sink into your sofa for an hour of crime and punishment aka AXN style.
CSI: Crime Scene Investigation is really just a modern day Sherlock Holmes, except that the Holmes in question doesn?t carry around a signature pipe, and he has more than one Dr. Watson helping him.
CSI doesn?t boast very interesting or original characters. You?ll find the been-there-solved-that leader of the pack, the rookie who wants to get noticed, the extra hard worker, the noble one who wants to make a difference. They?re all there.
If the basic plot?s not very original and neither are the characters ?what works for this programme??? Well for one, it?s simplicity. Crime is committed, crime is discovered, and crime is solved. Each episode is a story told interestingly, usually featuring a main plot (a high profile crime) and a subplot (a not-so-high profile crime).
Another reason for the show?s popularity is the special effects. What angle was a particular gun fired from, why a particular knife wound doesn?t make sense, how a blood trail can tell so much about the crime. All is revealed in the show through interesting computer graphics. These investigators love their fancy snoop toys and love showing them off.
The cast works well together. No spectacular performances as such. Not much is revealed about the personal lives of the characters. The show revolves mostly around the crime scenes and the crime lab.
This show appeals to anyone who enjoys a good mystery movie. Don?t watch with too many expectations or you?ll be disappointed. But all in all, CSI is a pretty good way to spend an hour.
