Enter the Forensic World

I like watching this series and well according to me its different than the usual series. I used to watch ’’Profiler’’ and the ’’X-files’’ but after sometime I lost the interest.

About CSI

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation is all about science and technology and how we can use it to solve crimes.

It is very interesting to watch and see what a human eye can detect if we see things minutely. And how easy it is to ignore the obvious evidence if we are not careful.

This series take place in the Criminalistics Bureau in Las Vegas which is led by Gil Grissom, senior forensics officer who specialises in Entomology. He is in charge of the team of top CSI investigators - Catherine Willows ( specialising in Blood Matter Analysis), Sara Sidle ( specialising in Element Analysis), Capt. Jim Brass ( Homicide Detective), Warrick Brown ( specialising in Audio Visual Analysis) and Nick Stokes ( specialising in Hair and Fibre Analysis) .

This series handles different cases of crime from the smallest of crimes like theft to serious crimes like homicides, etc.

The best part is that it has a good blending of humor, emotion, etc. This holds the audiences’ interest.

The direction is clean and professional. The editing is also pretty clean. The series’ highlighting aspect is that , Jerry Bruckheimer who made movies like ’’Pearl Harbor’’, ’’The Rock’’, etc is the executive producer and the quality of the series displays his professionalism.

The series handles two case files with two investigators dedicated to a project respectively. So it also does a good job of capturing the audiences’ interest.

Advantages

You will get information about high end technology which is used in the forensic world. That is, if you are interested.

For example, you will get to know about AFIS (Automated Fingerprint Identification System)used to scan fingerprints, Alternate Light Source (ALS) which produces visible and invisible light at various wavelengths, etc.

Another aspect which I liked about this series is that the evidence does not only point to the criminal but it also points to the investigators themselves thus making it more complicated and interesting.

Disadvantages

Well the only disadvantage I found was that there was not much emphasis on the personal life of the investigators... there is minimum involvement between the audience and the investigators except for a few episodes like Warren’s gambling problem and how they tackled it, Catharine being a busy mom and not being able to spend more time with her daughter, etc.... They have tried to blend in the investigator’s personal lives with the crimes and associated with their personal fears in certain cases.

Awards

This information is courtesy AXN. This series has won a number of awards and I think they deserve it.

CSI has become the highest-rated new drama of the fall 2000-2001 season in the United States, and was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for best dramatic television series. To date, the critically-acclaimed series has won numerous accolades, including:

· Nominated for Best TV Drama, Golden Globe Awards 2001

· Winner, Best New Series of the Year, TV Guide Awards 2001

· Nominated for Best Edited One-Hour Series for Television, American Cinema Editors Awards, 2001

· Best performing show in its primetime slot in the United States; adults 18-49 (CBS ratings 2001)
