I have been using videocon dth for around an year and I had a Airtel connection I ve been using for around 2 years which I recently disconnected and replaced with a Videocon Dth HD. First the airtel experience. The hardware is pretty good, be it the antennas or STB or remote. The remote is a learning remote so you can feed your TV remote to it and use a single remote instead of using separate remotes for TV and STB. The quality of picture is good and user interface is good. What you won t like about airtel is the very poor customer care. They never respond in time.
Even when I disconnected after paying for premium package for last two years, they didn t even bother to call to enquire why I disconnected. Airtel charges you exorbitantly for add ons and its never easy to disconnect a channel once you have activated. the rental for My package was revised to Rs.350 and under some lame excuses they kept on deducting money from my balance . I found out that they were effectively charging me around Rs 450. In a nut shell. No transparency absolutely no value for money. the pros would be good hardware particularly one of the best remotes. Be prepared for frequent disputes if you are planning to go for Airtel.
Now to videocon. At our Rest house at Mangalore we were using videocon for the past one year and I thought it was value for money. The customer care is pretty good, very responsive. So under these circumstances I decided to replace my Airtel DTH with Videocon DTH HD at my home. Installation was pretty quick as we just had to change the direction of the airtel antenna and connected the videocon STB. The videocon remote is an absolute disappointment. To compare it with Airtel remote it is like a china mobile to a Nokia. You need to use your TV remote too now. The user interface too is a disappointment even though the mosaic feature deserves a positive mention. The picture quality on both airtel and videocon are almost similar even though I felt Airtel might be marginally superior. but the HD channels on videocon are superb and the South platinum HD pack at Rs 442 including tax is an absolute winner value for money pack. You get around 300 plus channels while a 194 channel pack on Airtel costs Rs.607/-
from my experience I would recommend videocon dth.
