Why I chose Videocon:
(1) 22 channels in HD - highest amongst all DTH providers (if you have a LED/LCD TV, only HD channels are worth watching. SD channels look pathetic in these TVs – no matter which DTH you have).
(2) 3 English movie channels in HD – again highest amongst all DTH providers
(3) Compared all DTH service providers in https://dreamdth.com and found Videocon and Airtel to use latest technology
(4) Least negative reviews in Mouthshut amongst all DTH providers (Airtel has too many negative reviews)
(5) Visited other online forums and found Videocon customers were mostly satisfied with the service (there would always be exceptions)
(6) Monthly cost one of the lowest (again, check https://dreamdth.com)
(7) Lower Actual Purchase Cost. For example, for HD DVR:
--- Videocon: You pay Rs 6390, you get 1565 worth of free viewing (924 for 2months HD Platinum pack, 641 for 12 months D2H Cinema); Net Price = Rs. 4825.
--- Tata Sky: You pay Rs 6480, you get 1320 worth of free viewing (820 for 2 months Grand Sports Pack , 200 for 2 months HD Access Fee, 300 for 4 Showcase movies); Net Price = Rs. 5160.
Both companies gives free vouchers – but most of these vouchers are anyway available for free in other sites.
My experience in Purchase-to-installation stage:

(1) I purchased a HD DVR online on their website for Rs 6390. That was easy.
(2) No email (other than one from CCAvenue – the payment gateway) / sms / call from Videocon for 48 hours – which got me worried
(3) The online customer care guys (on 022-4200 0555) are a bunch of trained liars (special mention Mr. Karthik). He will keep promising installation within a few hours and then stop taking your calls.
(4) The regular customer care (92500 92500) are nice people without much clue of things… they kept requesting me to wait for the installation
(5) Sent mail to Nodal Officer requesting cancellation and refund
(5) Got a call from the service engineer... who came and installed it on Day 3. Very polite guy who said they are really over-worked these days, and typically do installation till 1-2 am in the morning!
My experience post-installation:

(1) One sentence: I AM LOVING IT!!!
(2) Excellent sound and picture quality in HD channels. (I have a Sony 46" LED and a Sony Home Theatre).
(3) Gave a call to activate recording facility (a little weird – why do I need to call to activate a standard product feature?). It was activated within hours.
