What do you expect when you go for a movie? Well, it actually depends on a lot of things. Star Cast, Director, Production House, Music Director etc etc. What do you expect from a movie which has Salman Khan? Had you asked me this question some 6-8 years ago, I would have said, nothing. But now, I have a definite answer. I expect two and half hours of entertainment, larger than life fight scenes, some *atarangi* dance steps, some god dialogues, one or two good songs and more than happy ending, where Hero always wins.
Well, Dabangg 2 delivers exactly the same.
There is a simple story, if you insist, to this movie. The story revolves around the fight of a cop with the goon turned politician of the city, the cop’s family life and his full of fun professional life, nothing else. But then it’s Sallu Bhai playing the lead here. So 95% of frames has Salman. And it’s justifiable also. Cause if you have an USP, you will use it in your every communication.
Debutant director Arbaaz Khan didn’t take any efforts to develop other characters and it was not expected from him too. And more importantly, it doesn’t matter also. AK took care of the flow of the movie, didn’t make it slow or went out of focus. The focus being “nothing is impossible for Chulbul Pandey”. He still has a lot to learn and may be in future he will become crisp. But no complaints AK, you didn’t make us feel bored. Only wish is if you could get away with couple of songs. That’s it. But then we understand that music is another big revenue stream for producers and you are producer too.
All the supporting cast has done their job well. It was good to see Vinod Khanna after a long time. He has portrayed a loving, caring, proud father very well. Sonakshi looks perfect as a wife and doesn’t have much of scope except for her dialogue in her last scene of the movie. She tried to match up with Malaika Arora in dance steps but it wasn’t a great success. Arbaaz Khan is ok ok in acting department and knowing this as a director, he didn’t give too much footage to himself. Disappointing part is Prakash Raj is wasted in the movie. This actor has immense potential and we all have seen it in Singham and Wanted. He got hardly one or two opportunities to show his caliber but nevertheless, he fitted the role. Another actor wasted is Deepak Dobriyal. Could have been used for more time.
Anyway, Couple of songs have already been declared hit before the movie and so they are. Couple of songs could have been avoided in the movie. Fevicol is some shades lighter than Zandu Balm in terms of impact.
Overall Dabangg 2 is a paisa vasool proposition. You will enjoy the movie if you go to theater to watch Pandey ji only. You would definitely say, “***Pandey ji, Aap ne to kamaal kar diya***”.
I had said this earlier also, if there is one actor who can become Rajanikant of Hindi Movies, that’s Salmaan Khan. And I can see it’s in process.
