Comedy of the year

I will rate this as a good comedy film. I couldn’t stop laughing during entire movie. It is neither action nor drama, It’s fully a comedy. And yes it works...for my surprise it works. I did not expect this from a Salman film but what to do...it entertained me. I was not keen on watching this seeing past record of Sallu miyan but positive reviews from everywhere specially from a reviewer I believe on most and no other significant release this week made me to go for Dabangg. I would say, though it was mindless movie with no story, I enjoyed. credit goes to direction and dialogues. It is like the comic books I used to read in my childhood, Naagraj, super commondo Dhruv etc....I was obsessed wth those.

See the example....the very first scene of Salman in te movie - "Some goons has looted a bank and the leader is sharing the money among all the members at some factory like place and then there is a knok on the door. One guy goes to open the door. He peeps from the door and DHAAADDD. Our police officer hero breaks the door with a kick and the guy is on the floor under the door" This is followed by a loong Rajnikant type fight sequence. I read smewhere that thay have hired action director from south. It shows. You feel like you are watching some masaala movie from south.

After some time hero is chasing the same set of goons when he meets the heroin…that is Sonakshi Sinha. He immediately falls for her and actually she deserves the fall. After a looong long time bollywood has got a real and original beauty. A pure Indian beauty. Since long we are watching artificial dolls who may evoke some particular senses in you but you don’t feel that hook in your heart. Sridevi, Madhuri and Manisha were such beauties who were carrying that aura to make you feel the beauty as divine. After that all were just sexy babes…Sonakshi makes that hope alive again. She has that simplicity, that grace in her.

Ok, let’s come back to the story..arrrr….where is the story?? Please let me know if you find one. I will tell you what happens. Still let me dare to tell the story – There is a Hero, a Heroin and obviously a villain. Hero falls for heroin and his actions makes the villain against him. They fight and villain dies. Samaapt. To decorate it, there is a mother, a stepfather and a stepbrother.

The hero Chulbul Pande is carefree type of person. He doesn’t care for anything in this world. He does what he wants and no one can stop him. He always wins whatever it is and without any tension. He knows that everything would be fine. He carries that carefree attitude and guess what? You like it. The most important thing in a movie is how to convince the audience about what you are showing and write and director succeeds here. It has been written and executed well otherwise such movies always ends up being a cheap C grade masaala movie. Everything with this movie has been done in carefree manner. Dialogues are good with good punches and timing is perfect sometimes vulgar though which is a minus point.

Coming to the performances, Slaman is perfect. He is best suited for such roles where he has to be a ‘Maskhara’ knowing his limits as an actor. Arbaaz khan was good. One thing I have noticed, there is a big problem with Sallu family thay, they cannt cry. They are very uncomfortable in such situations. Sonakshi does not have much to do but she is promising. She looks great, we will judge her acting skills in her next. Sonu Sood is a talented actor. Dimple did not act at all, either she was not interested or she has forgot her art. Vaise, no one has much scope in the movie as it is entirely a Salman Khan movie, He is there in each and every frame.

Music is melodious specially song “Tere mast mast do nain”. I love this track. “Hud hud Dabangg” is also good but I feel it sounds like some “Keertan” is going on. Sajid-Wajid should get there due now, they are one of most underrated composers. Direction is very good which has saved a non-story.

Finally we should be prepared for a flood of C grade movies now when Dabangg is a big hit because there would start a race now to make a cheaper movie. Dabangg works for so many reasons but people does not see that all they will see that a masaala film is a hit so they will make it a trend but it take skills to make a good movie on such subjects.

And at last I am not able to resist the temptation of making a bhajan out of the title song as it is a perfect material for that. Here is a tribute to late Gulshan Kumar –

“Jai jai Bajrang…bajrang…bajrang

Bade balwan, veer mahaan, dekh asur sab bhage

Jai jai bajrang…bajrang…bajrang

Full bhajan is available on demend. Enjoy ;)
