Well, if you are a die hard south indian food buff, you need to look no further. Dakshin at Windsor Manor is the place to enjoy a delicious Southern meal. Where else would you find such an amazing variety of south indian delicacies from all four states viz. Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh. On a first visit, dont even try to choose from the menu. Call one of the traditionally clad waiters who will be only too glad to recommend the best theres to offer. Trust their choice as they know what it is that makes their diners coming back for more. Ask them to suggest a dish from each state. That way youll get an authentic, true-to-its-name South Indian meal all together on your thali!! The main course is of course great but I was bowled over by the starters and the dessert. The Banana dosai in starters is something very unique and delicious. In desert ask for the Yelneer Payasam which is simply blissful. Its a payasam made of Coconut malai. Out of this world. Also the Dumroot Halwa is too good. Ask a small portion as it is heavy on the stomach, but these a are must-try when you go to Dakshin. The various pickles they offer to go with the meal are worth tasting. Favourites of mine were Tomato pickle and garlic pickle.
The ambience is very traditional with bells hanging everywhere. Gives a feel of a sacred place. They offer the ladies a flower gajra, something of a custom. They have live performances by melodious musicians performing Carnatic music. Though I dont fancy the idea of listening to live music while we eat. Its an insult to the artiste and the sacred art, I feel.
The service is also prompt and they are a friendly lot. Reservations are recommended especially if you are dining over the weekend.
Overall, a delightful experience youll cherish and definitely go back for more.
