If you are looking for a place, a drivable distance from Mumbai, Vadodra or Ahmedabad, a place where there is sun and sand and good food, then Daman is the place to hit. Daman has a decent stretch of beach , not very crowded, but riddled with pebbles which can prick your feet. There are horse rides available for kids apart from which there is little organised entertainment..Daman has decent budget hotels ( 1200-2400 per day) and go for the hotels situated right on the Devka beach.
The best part about Daman is that the locals are friendly and not pesky and the waiters serve you with a smile. What hurts is the lack of cleanliness on the beach. This the bane of all the beaches in India with the exception of the Andaman and Nicobar islands. The local authorities only spend money giving flashy tourism ads but nobody seems to be interested in keeping the beaches-the main reason why tourists land there- clean from plastics and debris! It is also difficult to spot the road to Daman from the NH8, as there is no signboard !!
You have to ask your way around near Vapi.
