A new world to discover

Nestled in the foothills of the himalyan mountain range lies this picturesque place called darjeeling. It used to be the summer heaven during the british raj.Having stayed there for eighteen years of my life I never missed it as much as I do now.The heat and the dust of the plains always makes me wait for my vacations to go back to my place.Well thats for me if you are planning to visit darjeeling and even if not it helps to be informed. The best time I recommend is during october and november that is if you are the reveller type who enjoys being in in crowded and festive enviroment.Thats the time when half the bengal comes up the climate is really plesant a bit cold during evenings and night and yes no rains. However this being the peak season prices are sky high from taxis to hotels so do keep in mind to find good deal try to bargain. The himalyan range is very clear during this time wich is not possible during the summer season due to the rains and clouds. You can see the beautiful kunchengunga and the sunset from the mall.Don’t forget to see the sunrise from ’’tiger Hill’’ thats something you musn’t miss.So be ready to wake up early and take a taxi since it’s 15km away from the main town area.Other places of intrest are the rock garden, zoological park, botanical garden, batasia loop, tenzing rock and tibetian self help centre. There are various tea estates you can visit here. You can take a cable car from north point wich goes to takbur tea estate and you can even see inside the tea factory and buy the famous darjeeling tea sold all over the world. If you are the type which prefers peace and break from the hectic schedule then the best time would be early december or march. There are lots of places for trekking around darjeeling area. The most popular being the sandakphu trek. There are many travela agents who manage the treks.

Unfortunately if you want to see snow in darjeeling than it’s not the place. There rarely is snowfall here. One important advice no matter when you come be ready ready for some unpredictable weather so don’t forget to bring along an umbrella here. You just dont know when it can rain.Even though oct, nov, dec, march does not have much rainfull but don’t take a chance here.Mirik situated 30km from darjeeling has a lovely lake and some amazing views so don’t miss it.A jeep takes around 2 hrs so you can make a one day trip to mirik. On the way you can even cross over to the nepal border and buy some some chinese stuff.

well darjeeling is connected by road to siliguri its a 80km uphill journey cutting through the jungles and tea estates it an unforgetable journey.you can take a toy train from siliguri to darjeeling if you really want to enjoy the trip. However the train is not always available. The nearst railway station is N.J.P and airport is bagdogra which is near siliguri.Once you reach siliguri theres absolutely no problem to reach darjeeling there are lots of jeeps and taxis available.Don’t forget to carry warm clothes anytime you travel to darjeeling and yes the umbrellas. The best way to see darjeeling is by walking so be ready to walk a few miles. So hoping this information may be helpful if you are planning to visit darjeeling and if you have any specific questions I would be happy to oblige.
