“Darna Mana Hai ---- WoW! What a concept! This movie is really very nicely made. It’s just unimaginable to interweave 6 stories so effortlessly. It really was a scary movie. I don’t have anything to carp.”
Noooooooooooo……. I just can’t resist the temptation. I am sorry I am reneging on my promise. I just can’t write without carping for this movie. Obviously, the first paragraph of this review is a complete lie. The movie is a total waste of time. The “Six Stories” are good enough to scare only the guileless kids. There are so stupidly written that you can’t just stop laughing.
My favorite is the “Apple Story” featuring Shilpa Shetty and lots of apples. The concept is very simple. If you eat cheaply bought apples, you become apple yourself. So the moral of the story is that do not ever bargain while buying apples. Pay the full price. Special appeasement efforts on the part of the director for the apple seller’s lobby!?
The other pick is the “Main Bakra (oops Bhoot) Hoon” featuring Vivek Oberio and Nana Patekar. What a star cast? Isn’t it mind- blowing? Nana Patekar tries making Bakra of Vivek Oberio, but only to discover later that Vivek Oberio actually is a bhoot. But, as a matter of fact, the seven year old kid, sitting next to me in the theatre, discovered the fact much before Nana Patekar and shouted at the loudest of his voice “Vivek Oberio is the Bhoot” Now either that seven year kid is a genius or the story writer is a fool. BTW I also discovered the fact much on time and I am no genius.
The only story, which was still OK, was “Smoking Mana Hai” featuring Boman Irani and Saif Ali Khan. Though the story still was least scary but it was nevertheless interesting. Boman Irani is a fine actor and Saif Ali Khan seems to be learning the traits of the business, at last. Well the story is simple. It is a practice of Boman’s theory that either you quit smoking or else I will make you quit life. Cool enough…Isn’t? Well the things have been portrayed well.
What else……Ya…How can I forgot? But of course…the “Homework” story! I should say, in this movie, interests of all the segments have been kept in mind. Kids must have enjoyed this story. The Teacher has killed his childhood friend in his childhood and now that friend of his enters the body of one of the students of the Teacher, and takes his revenge. The only interesting thing about the story is the word “OM”. This is what his friend use to write on his homework notebook and this is what the Teacher gets scared of on discovering it in his students notebook, and eventually becomes insane. So kids, if next time your Teacher treats you badly, start writing OM in your homework notebook. The job will be done.
The other two stories (the first and the last), to be frank, are not worth discussing (actually neither of the six is). I found the first one better, because the excitement was new. Otherwise they are equally non sense. The main movie story (BTW is there a story?) is, not to say, is …..(Leave it yaar).
The final word, don’t go and watch this movie for your own good health. You might end up spending sleepless nights in the guilt of having committed a blunder.
